Commercial Structures

Adopted Code

Oregon Structural Specialty Code (OSSC) - 2010 (free viewing)

Based on 2009 International Building Code (IBC), and includes amendments that are Oregon-specific. The OSSC covers commercial construction, certain apartments, transient lodging such as hotels and motels, and certain residential structures that are subject to licensure by the Oregon Department of Human Services.

Based on the 2008 National Electrical Code with Oregon amendments.
Some significant changes include:

  • Egress from working spaces around electrical equipment
  • Multi-wire branch circuit requirements for grouping and handle ties
  • Requirements for GFCI and AFCI protection techniques
  • Lighting and receptacle requirements in dwellings
  • Requirements for raceways in wet locations

  • Requirements for electrified truck parking spaces

Energy

Oregon Energy Efficiency Specialty Code (OEESC) - 2010 (free viewing)

Based on the 2009 International Energy Conservation Code (IECC) model code and includes Oregon specific amendments. The 2010 OEESC is the first edition of an Oregon stand-alone code covering the energy provisions. The energy code includes minimum requirements for the elements of a building that impact the use of energy such as the exterior building envelope, mechanical systems, and lighting fixtures and controls. Oregon's energy provisions were previously located in Chapter 13 of the Oregon Structural Specialty Code (OSSC).

Based on the 2006 edition of the International residential Code for One- and Two- family Dwellings and as further amended by the division with:

  • Code provisions for low-rise apartments are located in Appendix N in the 2007 Oregon Structural Specialty Code

The OMSC contains only the structural and mechanical provisions. The plumbing and electrical provisions for the ORSC can be found in the Oregon Plumbing Specialty Code and the Oregon Electrical Specialty Code.
