The Oregon Occupational Safety and Health Division (Oregon OSHA) will be presenting two days of free training classes for employers and workers in Coos Bay during January.

The Public Education Section of Oregon OSHA will be offering four different workshops during the training sessions on January 15 and 16:

Safety and Health Program Evaluation, 8:00am January 15.
Effective Safety Training, 1:00pm January 15.
Effective Recognition Systems, 8:00am January 16.
Lockout/Tagout, 1:00pm January 16.

Safety and Health Program Evaluation
This is an advanced workshop for safety and health professionals who want to be able to critique their company's safety and health operations. This class is valuable for those employers working towards membership in Oregon OSHA's Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program (SHARP) or the Voluntary Protection Program (VPP). Persons interested in attending should already have completed Oregon OSHA's Safety and Health Management class, or have at least two years of safety and health experience.

Effective Safety Training
Knowing 'how' to train workers can be as vital as the safety information being presented during training. This class teaches trainers to design, present and evaluate effective workplace safety training programs.

Effective Recognition Systems
Is the safety culture in your business fear-driven or success-driven? Participants will learn the differences between positive and negative reinforcement at work and how it impacts safety in the workplace.

Lockout/Tagout
'Lockout/Tagout' will help participants understand how hazardous energy could injure or kill workers in machinery (even when the machine is turned "off"). The training will cover inspections, proper training and communications, and correct lockout/tagout procedures

The workshops will be held at Southwestern Oregon Community College - Newmark Center Room 228, 2110 Newmark in Coos Bay. Oregon OSHA provides workshop materials for participants.
