Safety training workshops from Oregon OSHA in Medford

The Department of Consumer and Business Services, Occupational Safety and Health Division (Oregon OSHA) will be offering three days of FREE training sessions to employers and workers in Medford on August 16-17-18 at the Medford Education Resource Center in the Rogue Valley Mall.

Safety Accountability
Tuesday, August 16 - 8:00am to Noon

Implementing an effective safety-and-health program in the workplace requires that supervisors and employees are both accountable for safety. This workshop will introduce participants to a balanced accountability approach that includes positive recognition as well as effective discipline.

What to Expect from an OR-OSHA Inspection
Tuesday, August 16 - 1:00pm to 5:00pm

"What to Expect From an OR-OSHA Inspection" helps clear up some misconceptions about Oregon OSHA, and how an OR-OSHA compliance officer conducts an inspection or investigation on a worksite, including the rights and responsibilities of both employers and employees. Find out first-hand from an Oregon OSHA trainer what you can expect when Oregon OSHA conducts occupational safety and health inspections in your workplace. This workshop may be an eye-opener for supervisors, employees and small business owners.

Workplace Emergency Action Plan
Wednesday, August 17 - 8:00am to Noon

The class will demonstrate how employers can comply with Oregon OSHA requirements to have employee emergency and fire prevention plans in businesses with more than ten employees. Topics covered during the class include planning ahead for earthquakes, fires, floods, explosions, hazardous substance releases, medical emergencies and weather-related events that can impact a workplace.

Lockout/Tagout and Machine Safeguarding
Wednesday, August 17 - 1:00pm to 5:00pm

This session explains the principles of machine safeguarding, to ensure that exposed machine hazards do not come into contact with workers. The training session will discuss controlling hazardous energy, periodic inspections, training expectations and proper selection of safeguard options.

Fall Protection
Thursday, August 18 - 8:00am to Noon

This training will review what the safety rules are for wearing fall protection equipment in any industry that requires employees to be working ten feet or more off the ground, and where a potential for a fall exists. The training will also cover safe work practices for the construction industry, planning for a worker rescue, the best methods of fall protection and the safe use of fall-arrest systems.

Excavation Safety
Thursday, August 18 - 1:00pm to 5:00pm

Excavation work is a hazardous but necessary process in construction and public utilities work. This workshop will cover the specific hazards unique to excavation, safety regulations, shoring systems, requirements for protective equipment, soil classification and planning considerations.
