Free safety and health workshops in Hermiston
The Department of Consumer and Business Services, Occupational Safety and Health Division (Oregon OSHA) will be offering two days of free workplace safety & health training sessions in Hermiston
on November 1 & 2. Workshops will be held at Blue Mountain Community College, 980 SE Columbia Drive.
Tuesday November 1 8:00am to Noon
Safety and Health Management: The Basics
This workshop is designed to be an overview training about the interrelated elements of an effective safety management system. The instructor will provide a model written safety and health plan
that you can incorporate into operations at your workplace. This class is recommended as a good starting point for an employee who may be new to safety committee duties or workplace safety and
health responsibilities.
Tuesday November 1 1:00pm to 5:00pm
Safety Committee Basic Training
This workshop gives safety committee members, especially new members, insight into their roles and how important safety committees are to building safer workplaces. The class addresses topics such
as meeting management, problem-solving, and writing recommendations and reviews safety rules that apply in all Oregon workplaces. This workshop meets Oregon OSHA basic rule requirements for safety
committee training.
Wednesday November 2 8:00am to Noon
Conducting an Accident Investigation
This workshop shows participants how to conduct an accident investigation at work, securing an accident scene and gathering facts, recommend corrective actions or improvements, and writing an accident
investigation report. Participants will work through a hypothetical incident using an analysis system that emphasizes interviewing, fact-finding, and root cause analysis to help prevent future
incidents and injuries.
Wednesday November 2 1:00pm to 5:00pm
Identifying and Controlling Hazards
Participants will learn about the types of workplace hazards, developing and using a safety inspection checklist, prioritizing and correcting hazards, and writing an effective safety inspection
report. Meets Oregon OSHA safety committee requirements for Hazard Identification training.
