(Salem) – Workers, contractors, and employers in Oregon’s pulp and paper industry are invited to attend a conference designed to showcase workplace safety and health ideas from Nov. 29 to Dec. 2, 2011.

The Occupational Safety and Health Division (Oregon OSHA) is one of several partners presenting the Western Pulp and Paper Workers Safety and Health Conference at the Jantzen Beach Red Lion Hotel in Portland.

The conference’s keynote speaker, Dr. Isabel Perry, will present “Safety ROI: It’s Everyone’s Responsibility” on Tuesday, Nov. 30. Perry’s program will focus on the financial impact of safety both professionally and personally.

“Often, organizations will focus on the compliance side or the social responsibility attached to safety,” Perry said. “Often overlooked is the fiscal impact that motivates employers. We need to talk their language.”

Twenty-eight workshops and several roundtable discussions are also scheduled during the four days. Training on workplace issues that affect pulp, paper, and converting employers and contractors are part of the program. Other workshops include:

• Accident investigation
• Safety committee effectiveness
• Mobile equipment safety
• Employee involvement roundtable discussions
